Choosing Between a Broadband Provider and a Cable Internet Provider

  • October 31, 2020

Over 200 cable businesses in America offer broadband through a broadband connection via a cable network. Cable Internet providers provide service to over 89% of the U.S. population, making you more than likely have a regular cable Internet service in your community.

Broadband is a technology that allows you to communicate and surf the web using a wired connection instead of a wireless one. In essence, it’s similar to traditional telephone service but without the need for a telephone line.

With a broadband connection, you receive an analog signal on your computer, rather than a digital signal that’s broadcasted through your home or office. This digital signal is then sent to your home or office, where it can be picked up by your computer and converted into an analog signal that your computer can use to connect to a home or office network.

Broadband isn’t just for your desktop computer, either. You can take broadband to the next level by installing it in your laptop. The same digital signal will then be transmitted to the laptop in the same way that it is being transmitted to your desktop.

As previously mentioned, cable companies do offer broadband for free. This is called “free installation” and is actually free when installing it in your home or office. There are no contracts required, no contracts or subscriptions needed and there are no additional fees for services. This all comes as a big relief for many people looking to purchase a broadband Internet connection.

The cable providers also don’t require a separate line of credit. The broadband company will provide you with a broadband connection, but will then charge you the monthly rate for that connection. It’s a great option if you’re just looking to get online for the first time. If you already have a connection that you’re happy with, then this is a good option for adding more speed and capacity.

Most of the time, people who decide to switch from one company to the other just go from one plan to another until they find the best deal. This is because there’s a lot of competition among these companies, and customers tend to look around at different rates before making final decisions.

While some people want to subscribe with the first cable broadband service provider that they find, others prefer a company that offers more than just broadband. Many cable Internet providers now offer a wide variety of special deals including unlimited high-speed Internet access, video access and video on demand services.

Another consideration is whether you want to hook your existing telephone lines up to your Internet. If your home or office is in a remote area and phone lines are not available, this may be an option. For those with multiple computers, some providers offer dedicated lines of telephone access as well as Internet service.
